The pleasures of presence
Join Me
for a calming guided walk in nature that will activate your senses and connect you vibrantly and deeply to the wonders of the more than human world.
The essence of forest bathing is a sensory immersion in the ambience of nature. We walk slowly and notice things. The breeze on our skin, the scents of nature, the movement of trees in the wind. We take that notice in and let it land inside us, enriching us with the healing benefits of being in nature.
This mindful activity encourages participants to engage their senses fully and absorb the sights, sounds and scents of the forest. As one strolls through the dappled sunlight and listens to the whisper of the leaves, stress dissipates, and a profound sense of tranquility and connection emerges.
Tension Is Who You Think You Should Be.
Relaxation Is Who You Are.
Studies have shown that forest bathing can enhance mental well-being, reduce anxiety and stress, and boost immune function, making it a cherished ritual for those seeking respite from the complexities of modern life. Embracing this holistic approach to well-being, one discovers not only the beauty of the natural world but also a pathway to inner peace.
What is
Forest
Bathing?
Forest bathing, or forest therapy, is a slow, gentle and meditative wander that is activated by invitations offered by me as your guide and designed to stimulate the senses, slow you down and animate the imagination. It’s modern practice originates in Japan in the 1980s, where it is called shinrin-yoku, or “bathing n the atmosphere of the forest.”
We don’t walk far, it’s not a hike, we will not literally bathe in water — although we may allow water in a creek or pool to revitalize our touch. The pace is slow, not fast. The focus is on connection to and relationship with nature. Our motto is, “The forest is the therapy, the guide opens the doors.”
Bring your curiosity, leave behind your stress, anxiety and impatience. Walks last anywhere between 90 minutes and 2.5 hours. My walks are customized for the abilities and interests of my guests and typically conclude with a tea ceremony featuring locally foraged herbs and generous hospitality in nature. My walks can accommodate individuals, couples, small or medium sized groups, retreat participants or those just needing restorative time in nature.
I guide walks throughout the Bay Area and beyond, including in cathedral canopy old growth redwood forests, magnificent coastal ranges, timeless oak groves, Point Reyes National Seashore, state parks and urban parks such as The Presidio and Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, Reinhardt Regional Redwood Park in the East Bay, Wilbur Hot Springs lodge and Nature Preserve, and other locations.
What People Are Saying
“His sincerity and kindness gently guided us to shift from the habit mode of life in order to awaken a natural sense of self that knows to observe, witness and be curious. He provided space for us to experiment with how we see, how we communicate with nature and one another.” — Marc Morozumi
